The Azusa Street Revival: The Demonic Awakening
Updated: Jul 7, 2022

John 3
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
The Azusa Street Revival marked a turning point in the United States and the world at large. America had been falling into apostasy for decades leading up to this event. It was no doubt the work of Satan against this Christian nation. America was once the light of the world. It was Satan's number one adversary. In order to take over the world with the Antichrist, America had to fall, and fall it did. Up until the early 1900's churches were fundamentally sound and taught salvation through Christ alone. The Azusa Street Revival would officially put an end to that. It popularized the the Pentecostal religion and spawned the Charismatic religion. Both of which are religions based on emotional experience and not biblical doctrine. Now, let's take a look at what the Azusa Street Revival was.
Matthew 7
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
The Azusa Street Revival, was started by a man named William J. Seymour. He has a student of Charles Parham. Parham taught speaking in tongues was the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The real baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs when a person believes Jesus Christ died for their sins and the Holy Spirit indwells them. As a side note, in 1907 Charles Parham was arrested in Texas for sodomy with a young boy. He was also a member of the KKK and the Freemasons. In 1906 William Seymour moved to Los Angeles, to pastor a church run by a women named Julia Hutchins. He preached tongues as the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This idea was rejected and the doors were padlocked shut. Seymour had never experienced speaking in tongues and his philosophy was seen as unfounded. Seymour moved in with a friend Edward Lee. They began having prayer meetings to receive the "gift of tongues". During a ten day fast to receive the "baptism of the Holy Spirit", Edward Lee began to speak in tongues. By his own admission, Lee said that the night before he was visited by the twelve apostles in a dream and they told him he would receive the gift of tongues. The bible teaches against such things. It teaches that we are not to communicate with the spirits of the dead, it calls this necromancy, sorcery, and witchcraft. Soon after, several others began speaking in tongues. Within a few days, Seymour also began speaking in tongues. Word spread quickly and people began flocking to the house. Within days the crowds grew so large that the porch of the house collapsed. The group was forced to find a new location. A building at 312 Azusa Street was chosen. It had been used as a horse barn before it was converted into a church. Instead of a pulpit, two crates were stacked on top of each other, Seymour would often stick his head inside the top crate, while service was going on. As soon as the church opened, throngs of people arrived. Services went on all day and all night. The massive crowd was a mix of Blacks, Hispanics, Whites, Native Americans, and Asians. The bible was left open on the crates and people would come up and read from it and give testimonies. Rarely did William Seymour preach he mainly just stuck his head inside the crates. The building would be packed and their would be hundreds of people outside as well.
What most mainstream reports don't mention, is all of evil that went on at this revival. The services consisted of people wildly speaking in an unknown language, that was described as incoherent gibberish. People appeared to be possessed. Some would fall to the ground and not move for hours. There was gross perverted sexual immorality going on. People would be writhing around on the ground groping all over each other. They would fall all over each other in compromising immoral positions. These hours long groping sessions would continue into orgies behind closed doors. This was not a church service, it was a demonic ritual, where people would fall under demonic possession and act like lunatics. This was a cult, that brought demon worship into mainstream society. Satan worship poured out onto the streets of America.
During the height of this "revival", five highly respected bible teachers attended these events. They were G. Campbell Morgan, R.A. Torrey, H.A. Ironside, W.B. Godbey, and Clarence Larkin. All five men were appalled and disgusted by what they saw.
G. Campbell Morgan called it, "The last vomit of Satan."
R.A. Torrey said, "emphatically not of God and founded by a sodomite."
H.A. Ironside described it as, "disgusting ... delusions and insanities ... pandemonium's were exhibitions worthy of a madhouse or a collection of howling dervishes," causing a "heavy toll of lunacy and infidelity."
W. B. Godbey called it spiritualism and said, "Satan's preachers, jugglers, necromancers, enchanters, magicians, and all sorts of mendicants."
Clarence Larkin said, "But the conduct of those possessed, in which they fall to the ground and disgraceful scenes, is more a characteristic of demon possession, than a work of the Holy Spirit. From what has been said we see that we are living in 'Perilous Times,' and that all about us are 'Seducing Spirits,' and that they will become more active as the Dispensation draws to its close, and that we must exert the greatest care lest we be led astray."
Indeed these were seducing spirits. These Pentecostal rituals seem to have more in common with voodoo, than with Christianity. I do not think the Apostles writhed around like lunatics while in the the Holy Spirit. If you want to know what the Azusa Street Revival looked like, go on YouTube and watch Voodoo rituals, it is the same thing.
As word spread about the Azusa Street Revival many practicing occultist joined the "services". Witches and sorcerers became regular attendees, in order to add to the power of the event. Did witches accompany the apostles at Pentecost? I think not. There are many accounts of people speaking languages that they did not know, like Chinese or Hebrew. These are all unfounded lies. There are accounts of limbs being regenerated miraculously, again more lies. There were no healing miracles at the Azusa Street Revival, just demonic possession. There is zero evidence of incoherent "tongues" (babble) being of the Holy Spirit, until 1901. The bible teaches that tongues is speaking in another person language. Like if I were talking to person from Greece, I could speak Greek. That is a true miracle from god. If these people claim to be able to speak other peoples languages, then why did their missionaries need and interpreter?
If you want to trace back to the tipping point where America fell, look no further than the Azusa Street Revival. This was a turning point in American history, that stretched around the world. We have never recovered from it. Christianity has never been the same. It opened the door for all manner of evil to come into the church. As a result, America and the world with it, has became a sad a loathsome place. It now difficult to find a fundamentally sound church that preaches salvation by grace. When people depart from the faith and serving God, bad things will happen. Just read the Old Testament accounts of Israel when they departed from God. We have rejected God's word and now we must face his judgement.
I Timothy 4
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
I hope you enjoyed this article. If you are not a Christian, I invite you to get saved now. Tomorrow may be to late. To get saved all you have to do, is admit that you are a sinner and that Jesus Christ died for your sins. The only way to take away sins is with the pure shed blood of Jesus Christ. Good works can not take away sins. If they could, then Jesus Christ died in vain. Jesus died, was buried, and rose from the dead as payment for all sins. Once you believe that, you are saved forever. You did nothing to earn it and you can do nothing to lose it.
Ephesians 2
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Titus 3
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Romans 11
6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
John 6
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Romans 5
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
