The 70th Week of Daniel

Most people would agree that we are living in perilous times. Many have been out of work for over a year. Rioters have have over run police forces and have taken over cities. Aliens from outer space are in the news and are acknowledged by our government. There is extreme economic uncertainty. Most finance analyst are predicting the worst economic collapse in world history. Where is all of this leading too? Well if the Bible is to be believed, which it is, we are headed into the 70th week of Daniel.

Lets get started at the beginning. Daniels 70th week actually begins in the book of Jerimiah. In Jerimiah 25:11 God tells Jerimiah that the nation of Israel will be taken captive by the Babylonians for 70 years.

Jeremiah 25

11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

This punishment was due to their disobedience. Jeremiah spent years warning the people that God's judgement was coming upon Israel. Israel had strayed far from God's laws and God was tired of it. They were worshipping strange gods, sacrificing their children, and other abominations. God gave them one last chance to get right with him or he was going to destroy their nation, which he did. In Jerimiah 29 God promises that he will take care of his people in Babylon and after 70 years he will return them back home.

Jeremiah 29

10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

God made good on his promises. Israel was lead away captive to Babylon and God returned them home after 70 years. This is where we get into Daniels 70th week. While Israel was in captivity the prophet Daniel was called by God. He had many profound revelations to give him. One involved the coming of the Christ and the Anti-Christ.

Daniel 9

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

God tells Daniel 70 weeks are determined on your people. This means 70 weeks of years, so 70-7 year periods or 490 years. These 70 weeks were to begin upon the release from Babylon. At the end of the 70 weeks the Messiah will rule over them and put and end to sin. They were commanded to rebuild Jerusalem in preparation for the coming Messiah or Christ. On the 69th week the Messiah would be cut off. All of these thing would come to pass. Israel would be released and rebuild Jerusalem. The Messiah would come and he would be cut off. Jesus Christ was killed on the 69th week or 483 years after the Jews returned to Jerusalem, as stated in verse 26. The other half of this verse talks about a prince and his people, who shall destroy the city. That prince is Satan and also the Anti-Christ. Verse 27 states that he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week, this is the 70th week. The covenant will be made with Israel. What will result is pure terror and destruction. This verse predicts the coming of the Anti-Christ. The Anti-Christ will make a covenant with Israel and he will rule over them. He will also rule the entire world from Jerusalem, as stated in Revelation. Right now we are still living in Daniels 69th week. Between the 69th and 70th week, God has been dealing with gentiles and the spread of Christianity around the world. This has been God's great harvest of souls. God did not tell Daniel that there would be a 2000 year gap between the 69th and 70th week. The 69th week is coming to an end and lawlessness is taking over. Christianity is pretty much dead now and God is getting ready to fulfill his promise to Israel. God is going back to his Jewish program.

Daniels 70th week is also referred to as the Great Tribulation. This is a 7 year period of hell on earth where almost all people die. The nice part is that at the end, Christ returns to rule the world. The book of Revelation covers this in depth. We are now on the brink of this happening. This is a perfect time to believe on Jesus Christ and take his free gift of salvation. All you have to do is believe that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and rose from the dead as payment for your sins. No amount of good works can get you to heaven. Only by Jesus Christ can you be saved from the eternal flames of hell.

John 3

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Ephesians 2

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
