Reading the Bible

Reading the bible is an essential part of the Christian life. It is how God communicates with us. The bible is the most important book on the planet. Unfortunately it sits collecting dust in most peoples homes. Even Christians see the bible as a waist of time, they would rather watch TV, go on social media, etc.. They would rather indulge in the things of the world instead of the things of God. This is not surprising, the world appeals to our flesh. The things of the world, bring us pleasure. Reading the bible can feel like a chore for most people. Granted, there are some who really enjoy reading the bible. Either way Christians should make a habit out of reading the bible. Set time aside every day to read the bible. You don't need to read for hours on end, it can just be one chapter. Just try to everyday at least read something. This will help grow your relationship with God, and be a guide for your own life.

The ideal way to read the bible is to study it verse by verse. They also call this meditating on the word. This is not something that I am very good at. Many people say this is the best technique for understanding the word of God. This can be difficult for people who struggle with concentration. I often find my mind drifting when I try to read anything. My preferred method is to just read a couple chapters at a time. As long as I keep a steady reading pace my mind can stay focused, however at times it does drift. When my mind drifts I just go back and reread that section again. If you are having trouble with focus, pray for concentration.

I set a time aside every morning to read for around a half hour, sometimes I will go the full hour. I wake up in the morning and pray then I go straight to reading my Bible. I try not to get side tracked or put things off, because I am afraid I will never get around to doing it. Find a time where you can be alone that is not a big inconvenience, this way you are less likely to make excuses and put it off. I chose the morning, because I can wake up a little earlier and start my day out with the word. The morning is one of the best times to read the bible, because you can start your day out with God. This can center you. Another great time to read the bible is before bed. Many people say the bible puts them to sleep. This could be like killing two birds with one stone. It is best to reflect on what you read as your reading as well as afterwards. You may not feel like reading your bible on certain days, that is normal, just do it anyways.

God has a plan for all of our lives and reading the bible can help reveal that plan. If God sees you reading his word he will draw nearer to you. His word will get inside of you. As time progresses more of God and yourself is revealed to you. The blessings of God are also tied to bible reading. God blesses obedience, and their is nothing more obedient than reading the bible.

The more you learn about God, the more you will be able to discern between false teachers and real teachers. A lot of people are biblically ignorant, and are deceived by false teachers. These teachers come in telling people what they want to hear, instead of what God wants. This discernment is crucial in the life of a Christian. Once they are deceived they can go around spreading false doctrine. For example, gay marriage is fine, they are not hurting anybody. This is in direct opposition to the word of God. You see many things like this in the world around you. Their are very few things in this wicked age that we live in, that God tolerates. The more you read the bible, the more you will understand this. This will free up more time to do the things that God wants you to do. The Christian life is about service. We are left here to serve God. Earlier I mentioned TV and social media. For the most part God hates those things, They are really just a lot of filth. Replace the things of this world with the bible and things of God, and God will be pleased. Your life will be blessed for it.

I wrote this entry primarily for Christians, but it can be for anyone interested in God. If you are not a Christian and want to be saved from hell, it is easy. Just put your faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as payment for all your sins and you can have eternal life.

Ephesians 2

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

I Corinthians 15

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
