Christians and Music

Should Christians listen to music? If so what kind? In this post I will attempt to shed some light on this subject, based off of my own experiences. After getting saved in eighth grade, music started to have a greater impact on my life. As I progressed through high school, music became a bigger part of who I was. Most kids in high school are identified by the music they listen too. I believe this has to do with Satan recruiting the young and vulnerable, but more on that later.

By the end of high school, I was obsessed with music. My life was consumed by it. This was worldly music, not "Christian music". After school, not much changed, music had a grip on my life. I would use music almost like a drug, to feel better. When I listened to music, it would take me to a happy place. I stayed in this relationship with secular music for pretty much my whole adult life. While the music would make me happy, my life in general was pretty miserable. Could these two things be related?

What does God think about secular music? The simple answer is, he hates it! This music is as ungodly as you can get. It is ungodly people singing about ungodly things. Every aspect of it is ungodly From the lyrics, to the rhythms, to the symbolism, to the dancing, all of it. Many of these musicians do drugs and drink alcohol. Plenty of these bands serve Satan either in private or openly. Satan was the musician in heaven, and here on earth music is one of his greatest weapons.

Music is primarily geared toward the youth, particularly teens and tweens. It is the ultimate tool for brainwashing. It turns kids against God and encourages them to indulge their flesh. These young people are at their most susceptible to accepting Jesus Christ as their savior. Satan knows how vulnerable the youth are, and once he has them, it is usually for life. Satan will give music to musicians that ask for it. Members of famous bands have admitted that they couldn't write good songs, until they started using occult magic. These bands would then show up at the recording studio, and whole album would be basically written for them. They would all start playing and the music would just come out of them. This is scary stuff. The bible says.

Ephesians 6

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

These verses basically tell us that we are in a war, and we need to arm and protect ourselves. This music is serious stuff. We have to be careful what we let in, because it can influence us.

So, what about Christian music? That is is good right? My answer to that is no. Most Christian music is no good. It borrows heavily from secular music, like Christian rock and Christian rap. Those words don't even belong together. I feel that the only kind of music a Christian should listen to is, fundamentalist Christian hymns. They can be old or modern, as long as the emphasis is on Jesus and his work on the cross. These songs tend not to have heavy beats or wailing guitars. They usually possess a sweetness and purity. I have begun to listen to these songs everyday, and they are really renewing my spirit. They seem to push out the darkness that has plagued my life and let in the light of Christ. I like to sing along with these songs, to pay homage to the Lord. The more I push worldliness out of my life and let Godly things in, the better my life becomes. This defies human logic. The world says that success and accomplishments are what leads to happiness. The joy of the Lord however, comes from within. A great way to connect to this joy is with Gods music. I use to hate Christian music and love the worlds music, but now the opposite is true. I never thought this would be possible. If you allow God into your life, he will change you, and give you your best life.

I hope this was a blessing to you and I will leave you with the only way to heaven, the gospel.

I Corinthians 15

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
