Can I lose my salvation
Updated: Apr 14, 2021

Many Christians are often confused on weather or not they will lose their salvation. As if there is some sin we can commit that will cause us to loose our salvation. This is a reasonable concern considering the amount of opposing doctrines out there being preached to the masses. "Repent of your sins to be saved" is a very popular statement amongst the religious. "You must be baptized to be saved" is another. Some go as far as to say you must speak in tongues to know you are truly saved. I say all of this is nothing more then lies from the devil. One of his many attempts to lead people away from the truth of God. Salvation is not some pie in the sky impossible dream for only the most pious and holy, it is in fact very easy and available to every one. The greatest thing of all is that once you get saved you can not lose your salvation. There I said it, once saved always saved!
Now lets look at some popular verses of scripture that these so called preachers like to twist out of context. Here is probably the most famous, and the one I struggled with the most.
James 2
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
Many people use this as evidence, that to stay saved you must have works. This is not what it means at all. By the grace of God are we saved. This is talking about faith. You can have faith in a lot of things not just salvation. We are all given a measure of faith, Romans 12:3. This letter from James is written to saved believers. He starts the letter with "My brethren" which is to say brothers and sisters in Christ. He goes on to talk about showing faith and what they should show faith in. He desires them to show their faith in Christ by their works, and set an example about what it means to be a Christian. This section also shows how someone who is dead in the faith will not have works to show for it. This does not mean they are not saved though. He goes on to say.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
Romans 4 elaborates on this idea from a different angle:
2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Showing how faith and works go together. For example, having faith in Christ and believing in his shed blood as payment for our sins. The believing, in this case is a type of work.
Another popular one is:
Hebrews 10
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
This passage is written to Jewish people that were once under the law of Moses and does not pertain to the church, which was never under the law of Moses. The sacrifice here is referring to the animal sacrifices of the old testament. He goes on to say.
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
This passage goes on to condemn them for killing their Lord and walking his grace under foot. There are many verses in the bible that can be twisted to make it seem like you can lose your salvation. I have included several verses below that you can rest on for the eternal security of your Salvation. These need no explanation, they are as clear cut as anything and apply to all people. Thank you for reading and God bless.
John 10
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
I John 5
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Romans 8
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 2
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
John 3
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
